Website Design Northern Ireland

Website Design Northern Ireland

Today, more than ever, there is an increased demand on website design and development because every business needs a website with the amount of people who now prefer to research/shop online. But do you feel the web design/development industry is becoming saturated?

With hundreds of different website design companies out there it’s hard to know which one will do the best job for your website. The majority of people make their decision by looking at the website design company’s “portfolio” page, but is this enough to go by? There are some fantastic looking websites out there, but a few of which don’t make a dime! Yet on the other hand, there are some websites out there that look rubbish yet make an absolute fortune.

What you are selling, and trying to achieve all depends on the kind of design you need. For example – you are selling budget items, every item is £1. You don’t want an “expensive looking” website or this will make users think your products are costly, you will want your website designed to look like a budget website to match your theme and make it cheap & cheerful looking.

Website design

is not only about making websites look good, but is more about how something works than how it looks. Design is about both function and form. It’s about turning visitors into customers, and leads into sales.

Here are the top 5 website design errors made:

Having A Splash Page

Having a Welcome Page before your actual website, that says “click here to enter” with lots of heavy images can take a long time to load for people with a slow Internet connection, and can look very bad (unless you are a pro designer). You are actually making it harder for people to access your website. Some splash pages can look fantastic, but it can still be an annoyance to your website visitors. They are best to avoid.

Flash Website

Flash websites look fantastic, there’s no doubt about. But they are slow, you cannot view them on iPhone or iPad, they are extremely difficult to optimise for the search engines and are tough to manage. In fact, you would be surprised at the amount of people who have a computer with internet connection who don’t actually have Flash installed on their computer – so even many users that do try to view a flash site on a computer won’t be able to view the site either aswell as iphone/ipad users.

Using Flash elements in your site is a much better way to get those amazing looking functions you are after rather than building your whole website with Flash.

Have Music Playing On Your Website

Websites that automatically play music when loaded are extremely annoying. Sometimes people can’t find the pause of stop button so leave your website instantly.

Clutter your homepage

Do not clutter your homepage with too much information. Of course you want to show off every single service/product you offer to the user straight away, but it confuses people. They don’t know where to click and can in-turn have the opposite effect.

Make users think

If the truth be known, the majority of internet surfers have the attention span of a 3 year old child – Do not make users think! You have a VERY short window to gain a user’s interest before they leave your page and move onto the next most interesting link.

One way to gain the users attention and keep them on your website is making everything “easier” – make your navigation easy, have some white space (just not too much), place call to actions throughout your site so the user knows where to click for what they want and keep it clutter free!
